The preservation of our environment has always been a matter close to my heart.
Scientists, politicians, and activists have never ceased to tell the rest of us of how our world is dying, and our apathy is speeding up the process if we still do not do anything about this.
But our world does not need another No Plastic Bag Day program. What it really deserves from its inhabitants is sustainable efforts.
Sustainability is a prolonged concept of preservation. Its fruits are evident when a generation a hundred years or more after us are still able to enjoy what we are enjoying now, if not better.
However, it is no secret now to say that the resources of our earth is running into a quick depletion, with experts predicting its life span to expire in 20 to 30 years from now.
In the midst of bleakness, I am glad to note that a positive light has come to our shores through our Prime Minister’s seal of commitment to ensure a reduction of carbon emission in Malaysia by 40% in 2020.
We at RUSS also believe strongly that Malaysia can play a leading role in becoming a model green country, thanks to our strategic geographical location in the tropics.
Our tropical nation is blessed with fertile soils which promote the strong growth of trees and greens that exude the precious oxygen that we need.
Hence we have the potential to be carbon neutral cities (a concept of cities with zero carbon emission) or even better, carbon positive cities.
Green cities are the epitome of sustainable efforts for the sake of our nature and our children.
We applaud the Government’s effort in promoting green initiatives, including the introduction of the recent Green Building Index that encourages energy efficiency and high indoor quality in the construction of our buildings.
Me and my staff at RUSS are looking forward to seeing Malaysia leading the global pack finally; especially for a cause that will cost us all dearly if we do not put our acts together now.
Sincerely,
Rasila
